Purpose, Meaning and Darwinism

I attach a helpful article by Dr Mary Midgley published in Philosophy Now.

It challenges the 'cold war' waged by part of the scientific establishment against the notion of a grand purpose in human life (consisdered by scientists as a figment of imagination drempt up by organised religion) and asks whether the way forward for a wider understanding of where our natural sense of meaning and purpose has come from, may be better served by science eating a slice of humble pie on purpose to the universe.
